Welcome to the Peary-Henson Centennial Expedition blog! We hope you enjoy following the daily updates! Meet the team and learn about the route on the Peary-Henson Centennial Expedition page.

March 3, 2009 - Its 5:15pm on March 3rd. We are still in Rez but were very close this morning on getting out of here. The weather went south at Eureka while we were taxing out on the runway and the pilot called it off and back to the hanger we went. Larry(Lonnie), Moe(Max), and Curly(Stuart)- 'The Three Stooges' have used up all our jokes already and we havn't even hit the ice yet...we are though well rested and fit for fight, plane is loaded and hope tomorrow brings use good weather.

loading the plane in -30 temps.

March 2, 2009 - It is March 2nd, 8:45pm and we are still in Rez. We expected to get out by plane this morning but the weather went south and pilot was not up for the flight. It's probably just as well that we all got a bit more rest from all of our preparations. Had we flown out today we would have arrived on Ward HuntIsland in the afternoon and too late in the day to get any miles under us before pitch dark. Tomorrow if the weather is good we expect to get to the Island around noon giving us half a day to get out into the ice. All our sleds and gear are loaded in the aircraft for our 8:00am departure.

Checking out the route to Ward Hunt

March 1, 2009 - Its March 1st, clear, cold and still in Rez. We depart tomorrow for Eureka weather Station then onto Ward Hunt Island. We are working steady on what seems to be shear will giving the long hours to get ready...final adjustments to ski bindings, running through all our food, repacking medical kit so on and so on. We are all pictured here in front of a good friend we hope not to meet on the trail. Especially during the first week when we're traveling during thedarkness of polar night. That's all for now. Look for tomorrows update.
Cheers, Lonnie Dupre

February 28 - The team will be arriving in Resolute Bay, Nunavut tonight. Tomorrow they will do final preparations with their kit in preparation for a departure on March 2 for Ward Hunt Island. As you can imagine such a big expedition requires significant preparation. Each team member has put on approximately 20 pounds in anticipation of weight that will be lost during the expedition. They have also trained extensively for the physical challenges that lie ahead. We hope to post a sound file tonight, or tomorrow so check back soon to hear the first audio update from the team.
