Today they camped at an elevation of 9,004 feet. The South Pole is at 9300, which means they only have 300 feet left to ascend over the next 60 nautical miles. The rise is almost imperceptible which will be a welcome change for them. The temperature today was a cool -26 C and the wind was 5 kt from the south.
When we heard from them Keith had just spoken by satellite phone with our 2015 last degree ski expedition who are kicking off their expedition tonight in Punta Arenas. Keith has guided several of the team members on various expeditions and it was nice for everyone to exchange greetings and wishes of good luck for the coming days. Andy was enjoying a word search game that we made specifically for the Full SP expedition team with clues that reflect their daily activities and lives.
And here is the long awaited New Year's Eve selfie of the team. They join all of us at Polarexplorers in wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
