"A Treat To See It All Come To Life"

It sounds like the Ruff Riders had quite a special day today. They awoke at 1am to cold conditions, as hoped, and were out skiing by 3am. The first 4 hours of skiing were cold and windy, but they were treated to an amazing sunrise around 4am. Keith remarked, " it was beautiful to see the light engulf our ice cap surroundings". Us following from the comforts of home can only imagine...

Their strategy of changing their travel schedule seems to have paid off, and they made nearly 24 miles today through a variety of snow conditions. They started off with cold, deep fresh snow which turned to "a sun baked ice rink", followed by a "soft ice rink" in the evening. During the hot afternoon they enjoyed snow baths during their breaks and were skiing in as little clothing as possible! They have been swapping leads and it sounds like they are travelling as a well-oiled team.

Today they descended nearly a thousand feet of elevation - a very real reminder that the ice cap will eventually terminate at the sea, and that that time is not very far off now. With good weather it could be just a few more days. We are all getting super excited and proud of their resilience... Won't be long now....
