First Full Day on Trail

It was the first full day for our Greenland Icecap crossers and they had a good day that started on crampons and ended on skis, which is more exciting than it sounds!

Overnight the weather was windy with their expedition flag standing up tall, but by morning it had died and for the rest of the day it was calm. Still, conditions for the group were challenging with overall elevation gain and also steep but small ravines which are carved annually by the previous summer melt.

Around noon the terrain evened out and there was lots of snow which allowed them to switch from crampons to skis for the rest of the day.

It was hot and sweaty work which is not ideal but they managed just fine and they were able to make 8.5 miles which is awesome for the first full day! Everyone is doing great and they are happy to be where they are.
