"Glob Fest" is no fest at all!

Sun-baked deep snow can transform a simple travel day into a "glob fest." With recent snowfall and rising temperatures, breaking trail has become a grueling test of endurance. AC/DC unexpectedly found themselves as the headliners of this sticky situation.

"Glob fest" describes a snow condition where the surface turns into a clumping, adhesive mass. As skis move across the surface, friction melts the top layer, causing the snow structure to quickly morph into a sticky mess. Their ski skins—the essential traction layer needed to pull heavy sleds across usually frictionless snow—become magnets for these clumps. Despite topical treatments that often rub off, the skis, skins, and team members are forced to simply endure the conditions.

The snow literally anchors skis and sleds in place until enough force is applied to break them free. This effort can be extraordinary, and eventually, the energy required outweighs the progress made. The team managed to cover over 9 miles in these conditions and now plans to shift entirely to a night schedule to take advantage of the cooler temperatures.

The forecast shows little sign of cooling for the next few days. While the weekend brings a chance of more precipitation, cooler temperatures are expected to return by the end of the weekend.
