We can finally stop referring to our amazing Greenland Crossers as "the team". They've selected a name, and the name is <drumroll>
The Ruff Riders!
No doubt their name choice was influenced by the difficult weather they've faced thus far. The fur ruff that wraps around the outer edge of their jacket hoods is an essential gear feature when you're dealing with windy conditions. It keeps a great deal of wind off your face, and is a major comfort booster. As we like to say, ruffs create a micro-climate around your face. One that is so much more comfortable than the surrounding environment.
Today was no break from the difficult conditions they've been facing. In fact it was the coldest day yet. Relentless 15-20 mph winds were blowing all day. And to top it off, it was another whiteout day with very little visibility.
Despite all that, they still managed 12.6 miles in 9 hours on trail. Really great work!
After pitching camp, the Ruff Riders gathered in one tent to eat dinner and share some treats to celebrate Jim's birthday. Due to all the windy days of late, it was the first time they'd all seen each others' faces for quite some time!
They had a great little party, and are now resting up in advance of tomorrow's relatively easier weather. They want to put up another great mileage tomorrow as it seems that another windstorm will develop over the weekend.
