Skiing Inside the Ping Pong Ball

The team had another great day today on the icecap, and got their first taste of some challenging skiing conditions. About halfway through the day a fog bank rolled in and completely consumed them creating zero-contrast conditions. In these conditions, you can only see what is right in front of you, and if you are the person in the front of the line, you can't see anything in front of you except the tips of your skis. Everything else is grey-white blankness. This is why we affectionately call it "skiing inside a ping pong ball". It can be very disorienting, and will always slow the pace of a team.

Regardless, the team covered 20km today, and are planning to continue increasing their distance covered each day this week. Listen to the audio update from Nancy Moundalexis below, and stay tuned for another update tomorrow!
